Michael Morris
Michael Morris (Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone) Airman First Class Michael Morris is originally from Greenville, South Carolina. Before auditioning for the USAF Band of Mid-America in June 2011, he lived in Chicago for four years teaching privately and playing in various concerts, shows, and musicals in the Chicago area and abroad. He is a clarinetist for the band but also plays multiple woodwind instruments including saxophone and flute. Primary clarinet instructors have included Harry “Chip” Hill, R. Douglas Graham, Joseph Eller, Theodore Oien and Steve Cohen. He has participated in many masterclasses with world renowned musicians during his undergraduate and graduate studies. He has performed with the Augusta Symphony Orchestra (GA), Charleston Symphony Orchestra (SC) and Illinois Symphony Orchestra. During 2006-2009 he has been a member of the Piccolo Spoleto Conservatory Orchestra during the summer, and in 2007, attended the Aspen Music Festival with a full fellowship from the University of South Carolina. In 2009 he attended the Texas Music Festival with a full fellowship and was a finalist in the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Young Artist competition there. Airman Morris is a high school graduate of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities, holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from the University of South Carolina and a Masters in Clarinet Performance and Literature from Northwestern University Bienen School of Music. Airman Morris has been a member since December 2011 and performs with the Shades of Blue Jazz Band and Concert Band.
